Cake Smash Sessions

First birthday photos and cake smash sessions are a fun way to celebrate such an important milestone that truly captures your little one during such a special time in their life. Cake Smash sessions include both pre-cake and cake photos and are typically scheduled 3-4 weeks prior to their birthday or when you would need the photos (for birthday invitations or prints at the party) so that you have beautiful pictures to share on their special day.

Cake Smash Tips & Tricks

You have full access to the props, decorations, and outfits (optional) that we offer at our studio located in Shavertown, PA. With all of the details taken care of, here are a few things that you can do to prepare yourself and your little one for their Cake Smash Session.

1. Schedule your session: You want to schedule your session about 4 weeks before baby's birthday (or when you need the photos for invitations) so that I can have your edited photos back to you in time.
2. Don't schedule your appointment around any doctor appointments and be conscious of nap times: Stranger anxiety really sets in at this age so we want to do our best to have a happy, refreshed baby! Just like us, they have good and bad days.
3. Trial run at home: Some babies may be intimidated by having a cake placed in front of them for the first time. Practice at home with a cupcake prior to your session so that baby can get used to the feeling of frosting between their fingers and the taste of sugar.
4. Feed baby before you come: A hungry baby is a cranky baby.
5. Bring small snacks: Cheerios, puffs, or another bite-sized snack are the perfect size to hide in the frosting and will grab baby's attention. Bonus: it will look look like baby is eating cake on camera!
6. Pack a favorite toy: This will help grab baby's attention in the event baby needs a distraction or a break. We will only break it out if needed.
7. Pack a change of clean clothes for baby... and for you: Baby will get messy, but so will you. You will be glad to have an extra pair of clean clothes for you both. Don't forget to bring a bag to put your dirty clothes in.
8. Discuss any allergies or special needs with your photographer before the session: This will help ensure a safe and fun session for baby.
9. Have fun! This is a time to remember such a special time in your baby's life and to capture their true, authentic reaction during their session.
